Dwarf fortress fortifications diagonally12/19/2023 ![]() If you Plan for the Journey Carefully bauxite stone is cheap and works for this. I'm not sure if it would have to be magma-safe material if the floor is over it I use magma-safe just to be sure. I did have some magma crabs invade that layer though I'm assuming they came through the workshops somehow. This is much more vulnerable to magma creatures though, so you might want to station some marksdwarves there if you have enough dwarves for that, or floor over the magma and leave gaps for workshops. Also a diagonal path along the path the magma will flow down will slow the magma's progress down as IIRC it removes fluid pressure. You can simply dig around it and have your workshop overhang over the magma. I'm not sure which parts of the workshops are impassible but if you find that out, put the impassible part over the hole for magma and it should prevent magma creatures from swimming into your fort.ĮDIT: A volcano map also makes this trivial as the magma is exposed to the air in the cone. Also a diagonal path along the path the magma will flow down will slow the magma's progress down as IIRC it removes fluid pressure. Warning: There have been multiple reports of hostile creatures escaping confinement while pitting. This is safe for most hostiles, but see warnings below. Is a simple design that keeps you from having to build cages before releasing hostile creatures from them. If you have a particularly useless dwarf you can also have them carve a fortification into warm stone with adjacent magma, but they will probably die before they can make it past the magma safe floodgate attached to a lever to close it. Mass Pitting Design edit Also called the 'Mass Cage Recycling System'. However if you keep building material (+anvil if it's a forge) next to where the channel is, you should have plenty of time to place the workshop over the channel before the magma leaks out onto the floor. ![]() If you channel over the magma, eventually it will overflow due to fluid pressure as the magma sea is refilled to capacity and pushes into openings. I have double wide walls all around the opening with a drawbridge. My fortress is built into a hole in the ground. ' But when I try to place fortification on walls, it says 'must remove construction'. Current Development: RSS Feed, Release Feed, Bay12Games Heres a report for the month. And Future of the Fortress: here. The way I did magma workshops in a reclaim fort that died yesterday (not from complications from magma though) was by being lucky and finding the layer above the magma sea. The wiki says ' Place fortifications at the tops to stop climbers. Now available at Steam and itch.io DOWNLOAD DWARF FORTRESS CLASSIC 50.11 (October 3, 2023) Windows Linux. ![]()
